Measurement framework
Share of Recommendation (SoR) requires systematic measurement across platforms, queries and time periods. This methodology defines the standardized approach for consistent, comparable results.
Query selection
Select 50-100 representative queries per industry. Include queries at awareness, consideration and decision stages. Weight queries by estimated AI platform usage frequency.
Execution protocol
Run each query on each platform with standardized parameters. Record the complete AI response. Classify brand appearances as: mentioned (name appears), cited (content referenced) or recommended (brand actively suggested).
Calculation
SoR = (Your brand recommendations / Total brand recommendations across all competitors) x 100. Citation Share = (Your brand citations / Total brand citations) x 100. Top3 rate = Percentage of queries where your brand appears in the first three recommendations.
